Wheat Planting!

Today Marc spent all day planting, no drilling, wheat. The wheat will come up maybe even as early as Monday, Al says, and then will grow until it gets cold, will go into dormancy through the winter, and then start growing again in the spring, and be harvested sometime in June. Its life cycle is a lot like our lawns.

Notice the marker out to the right in this picture. Marc uses the line it makes to keep him driving straight when he turns around. It drives Marc CRAZY when he sees fields that have been drilled crooked (or lawns that are mowed crooked, for that matter). He did a great job driving straight.

Before he left this morning, Marc hinted that he'd love to have us visit today, if we could. So, we were more than happy to oblige. We called up Shirley, grabbed us some Sublette Subway sandwiches, and headed out to Montezuma.

Cole did some exploring after lunch.

Then, Cole and I joined Marc on the tractor.

Cole even got to drive!

Conditions look promising for the wheat. Time will tell. A lot can happen between now and June! Wanna come visit for wheat harvest?

  2. Nice documentary of your day. Lots of happy people and one very cute little boy. Love the pictures in the field. Especially love the pictures of Cole. I can imagine he'll grow to love trips to the farm.
