Weekend at Voth's

Dave and I drove out to Sublette leaving Friday afternoon. We stopped in Strong City at a cafe Dave has been wanting to try. It's called Ad Astra. They say it's the best place west of Kansas City. Well, it was very good and we'd highly recommend it. Dave ordered a gourmet bison burger and said it was excellent. I had a delicious Rueben sandwich. We both tried the fried Brussels sprouts because they we highly rated on the web. We wouldn't order them again.
We also ordered the fried pickles. Really good!

We got to Sublette before Cole was in bed. He was a sight for these grandparents road weary eyes!  Here he is with his pile of library books. So fun.

General got into the bedtime stories too. You've all heard about but Dave got to initiate - the Voth basement shower. It was heavenly.

After a tasty breakfast of French toast and bacon, we went downtown for the Haskell County fair parade. It was very well attended. Lots of people knew Marc and Dana and Al and Shirley who joined us for the parade. The parade lasted just at an hour with fun vehicles, a clown, some floats, kids on bikes, lots of tractors, fancy 4-wheelers and farm equipment, fire engines, police cars, and horses, to name a few. Oh yeah and lots and lots of candy. Cole took notice of the parade. It was a fun time.

These three retrieving some of the thrown candy.

We went to the new Subway for lunch. It was bigger than I thought it would be. Very nice.

Dana blog about Cole feeding General — one piece of food at a time — but we got to see it. It was so cute. General ate each piece, one at a time.

Cole was outside with Dana and I was in the kitchen. All of a sudden I hear someone playing with the doggie door flaps. It was Cole.

This picture doesn't show the butterfly but Cole was trying to catch it. I got a cute video of it. Unfortunately I haven't had success adding videos to this blog.

Dana says Cole likes to look for the sprinkler head in the side garden. He found it that evening!

We got to see Joel on Saturday night and hear firsthand about his recent exams. That was great! He did his best!!

Saturday night Marc grilled some delicious chicken. Dana paired it with cheesy potatoes and corn on the cob. It was a wonderful celebration meal for Joel.

He tried out the hammock he bought the day before. It fits him! Dana and Dave tried it too.

After dinner we played Five Crowns. Marc was the big winner. But I must say he only beat me by two points. And Dana...had fun.

Other favorite photos of the weekend.

If you look closely you'll see that Marc's new truck has been nicely broken in.
