Cerner tour

A bunch of the family got together last night for dinner.  We ate at Chiusano's Brick Oven Pizzeria at The Legends which is across the street from Cerner, where Brad works.  He invited Dave and me to visit his office.  We jumped at the chance!

When I'd drive by the building, I wasn't too impressed with it.  However, when I got closer to it, even just from the side street, I really like look.  I love the windows and thinking that the work space inside would be so bright and scenic.  Brad told us the pattern in the windows, etc. is electronic DNA on it's side.  Who would have known?!  How creative!

This is what you see once you get through the entryway.  Open space, cool wooden paneling, in the round, with windows to an outdoor courtyard and enclosed walkway to their other building.

Brad works on the 8th floor.  At one time, he would walk the steps DOWN because he joined a co-worker's challenge to "take the stairs".  Last night we took the elevator - up and down!  Brad explained the innovative elevator system to us. You select your floor on the screen then it tells you which elevator to enter. That elevator will efficiently stop only at your floor &/or 1 or 2 others, freeing you from having to stop at a multitude of floors on your way to work. Cool!

Brad works for the PHARMACY division.  This sign made me think of his K-State FarmHouse days.  His cubby is about 4 rows back on the window side.

Here it is . . . Brad's desk.  During the day his laptop sits on the black stand. They have to take it home with them each night.  I was surprised that he had nothing in his work space. Guess that's a reflection on Brad.  No posters, no calendar . . .

. . . no pens in his drawer, no paperclips, no scissors. The only thing in his open drawer is his Cerner iPhone.  See the wolf statue? That's his only adornment, besides the headset and a piece of paper.  His team is called the Wolfpack.  He was given that as an award. Have to ask him what he did to earn it.  The cushion on the bench at the right is for visitors.  Pretty cool!

I opened his closet cupboard.  Only thing in there was a bottle of ibuprofen.  A sign of his recent constructive knee surgery.

HELP!  (I think) Brad needs help decorating his cubby.  Abby, what is appropriate for a corporate, cubby dwelling kind of guy?

Cerner has provided a variety of work spaces.  If you want to take a walk while completing your client "tickets", just take your laptop around the corner to the treadmill. Or if you just need to stretch your legs, there are standing work stations:  high counters at which you stand.

You could probably tell a few of these pictures weren't taken by me.  If you want to see the entire slideshow, click here Brad's Cerner

As we drove away I commented to Dave that as a parent it will never get old seeing where our kids play, live, work, and spend their time.  Thanks, Brad, for wanting to share your life with us!!
