Erica is in the house!

From Georgann

Erica moved to Olathe on Saturday and has survived four days of student teaching in a Blue Valley middle school.  She worked on a puzzle with me.  She's interested in how our days went. Tonight she showed Dave and me how to play "Trivia Crack" on our phones.  What a fun girl she is!  NOTE:  she still has her coat on. We turned the heat up, but these days, it's cold everywhere!

It's cold everywhere

From Georgann

As we drove to Life Group on Wednesday night, we noticed the time matched the temperature.  Crazy cold days! But it didn't keep us down.

Salt cellar

From Georgann:    There it is!  My new salt cellar.  Pretty cool.

Actually I received two salt cellars for Christmas.  One from Mary and one from Brad and Kathryn.  The one pictured above is from B & K.

I was making homemade enchilada sauce for some pulled pork enchiladas.  The recipe said "add salt and pepper to taste".  And voilĂ !  I took a pinch of salt and lightly sprinkled it in to the pot.  I was in control of the salt and knew how much I was adding - unlike using a salt shaker. I love it!

Want to try the enchiladas?  Click here.  They were great, quick to make, and the homemade enchilada sauce was delicious, perfectly salted.

Small Town Stuff

I love small town stuff. Today the doctor suggested I get my prescriptions filled at the local pharmacy because "they're the  fastest and they have a drive up window". A drive up window?! I had never seen that. But sure enough, when you pull in the back alley, there's a sign...

El-Kan Drive Thru

You pull up to the hinged window, push the doorbell for service, and a sweet young girl comes to your aid.

It was great! I didn't have to get Cole out in the weather and I got to support local! Thanks, Liberal.

Sick Baby

I took Cole to the doctor today after 7 days of a runny nose, coughing, off and on fever and general yuckiness. 7 days! I couldn't believe he wasn't showing signs of getting better.

Marc and I both hate to run to the doctor and like to let his body try to ward off the sickness on its own, if it can. But, that was just too long. He's been down and out since we got home from Christmas! Talk about a tough week for Mom and Dad! And I was sick myself for a few days in there. We were in survival mode - hence the quietness from me on the "blog front".

Turns out Cole had an ear infection in both his ears. We got some antibiotics and meds for the congestion and the goop in his eyes and told to continue ibuprofen for the fever.

It was such a huge relief to be DOING something, instead of just waiting it out. I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Praying tomorrow continues to be better and better!

Elsy's new bath contraption

So I saw this bath contraption on-line awhile back and its purpose was to keep water out of your child's eyes when you wash their hair in the bath. I thought it was such a funny concept and it was $12 plus shipping so I kind of just laughed it off. But a couple weeks ago, I saw it for $5 which included shipping. Four weeks after that, it arrived from China and is worth every penny! Elsy no longer minds getting her hair washed!
(She thought it was a skirt the first time she saw it so that's how she insisted on wearing it at first!)

Do you shred?

From Georgann

When I filed away some paid bills this morning, our files were so FULL!  I was moved to clean out past bills/receipts we didn't need any more. That leads to shredding.  Do you all shred those kind of documents?  It's a chore of drudgery for me.
