Wichita Trip

From Dana:

Last week Marc had a meeting in Wichita for his crop consulting organization. This was the second year he was in charge of planning the entire thing and he got lots of compliments on a job well done.

Mom and Dad met us there and it was absolutely wonderful! We got to celebrate my birthday by going to chipotle for lunch and going on a shopping spree! Both afternoons Mom and I went shopping while Dad stayed back and watched Cole when he got up from his nap. It was so fun to be out doing that with her! I loved it! Definitely a highlight.

Both evenings I got to join Marc for his banquet meals while Mom and Dad fed Cole and put him to sleep. They did such a good job. Mom remarked that she thinks Cole knows them/remembers them, and I totally agree.

We met up with sue, Sara, and Cameron for lunch on Tuesday at the new Chick-Fil-A in Derby. Good food, nice restaurant, and fun conversation.

On Wednesday after mom and dad left, Cole and I had the morning to kill. I discovered that the Wichita public library was just around the corner from the hotel, so we ventured over there for storytime. I was very impressed with the lady doing it - lots of songs, books, interaction, animal sounds, shapes, colors, etc. It was a gem to find something like that to spend our time doing.

Cole and Grandma enjoyed the elevator. Cole thought it was so fun that Mom would mimic him. We were headed down to the pool to swim.

Dad (and Mom) made lots of trips up and down the lobby level hallways keeping track of Cole while I helped Marc set up for his meeting. They covered some major ground and got to do things like take drinks from the drinking fountain, go through the automatic doors, and up and down the luggage ramp. They stayed busy and entertained.

Here is Dad and Cole racing down the hallway. It didn't take Cole long to learn where our room was, mom and Dad's room, the elevators and the meeting hall where Marc always was.

Packing up

Cole and I got all our stuff packed in the cart and he hopped on for a ride without even being prompted. Worked out pretty well.

Mom and I both commented that the drive home seemed fast. We concluded that one of us should move to Wichita to make the distance shorter to see each other... Not sure it's going to happen.

Thanks for making the trip, mom and dad! This birthday will go down in the history books and you served our family so well. Thank you. Love you!

  1. That picture in the elevator made me smile. Cole with his swim trunks on and mom mimicking him!! Oh love it. And the picture of him sitting on the cart, like he knew he was supposed to hop on!

  2. The trip was just as wonderful for us as Dana! We loved having two-on-one time with Cole. He is so full of life and energy. And yes, we do feel like he knows us and likes us! We LOVE him.

It was so much fun shopping with Dana. She was well prepared with a list of wishes and wants. When we entered each store, she noticed the department signs and only went to those areas she had on her list. She conquered in an efficient way. Amazingly fun!

It had been a long time that we'd been with Dana on her birthday. BONUS!

We also saw Marc in a role which we've never seen him in before. His preparation, organization, attention to detail and boldness to make changes made for a successful conference. Great job, Marc!

We loved being with the Voths!
